Not quite ready to donate? No worries. There are many, many others ways to get involved! Subscribe to my blog to read about the experiences and stories I’ll share throughout the year, or "like" my Facebook Page, bookmark my website, or leave me a message below:

"Perks" are what YOU get in return for being awesome and supporting my campaign.  What are the rewards? Awesome stuff, that's what. Have you ever wanted to own your own virtual postcard of a Senegalese goat, lovingly delivered directly to your email inbox? How about a mixtape or poem handmade just for you, and an e-coupon redeemable for one world-class back rub from yours truly? The perks aren't much, but I hope you'll enjoy and start cashing in your goods!

Culver-GCY connection!!

"We're dreaming big. Imagine if every 18 year old spent a year working and living in the developing world before they began college. It's hard to imagine that the world would not begin to change."

Abby Falik, Founder & CEO of Global Citizen Year

As many of you know, I am deferring from college to take a gap year in Senegal for eight months. While in Senegal, I will  join a cohort of 60 fellows to live, work and learn in a rural village in Senegal, West Africa. I hope to share this next adventure with you as it unfolds, and I hope you will join me!

I love to travel; I caught the travel bug in North Africa with Dragons.  After thirteen years of traditional schooling (including four awesome years at the Culver Academies), I yearned for time to travel to new places, meet new people in new contexts, and to reflect upon this notion of globalism and global interdependence. In Senegal, I will apply my efforts and energies towards supporting and understanding this interdependence, as well studying change and change factors in the developing world.

With your donations, I have pledged to raise $2,500 by August 21st. The donations are headed to a scholarship fund, the Fellows Fund, for future high school graduates. Global Citizen Years pledges to support 100% of each Fellow’s demonstrated need, regardless of socioeconomic background. For me and fellows like EmilyGCY would be nothing more than a pipe dream without the extraordinary generosity of GCY scholarships--and people like you--that covered 100% of my financial need.

What can YOU do?

In contributing to this campaign, you will make a critical and lasting impact on an entire generation of future leaders. Alumni of GCY--including CGA alumnae Madeleine Balchan ‘10, Henrietta Conrad ‘11, Emily Ford ‘12, Kim Asenbeck ‘12 and Hannah Bouline ‘12-- have come back to the United States motivated by a profound sense of purpose and possibility not limited by immediate contexts, and extending past language, political borders, traditions, and social and cultural constructs. Donations of any size, even a $15 contribution, will make a difference in furthering a global vision, where, someday, Global Citizen Years will be a possibility--the norm, even--for every high school graduate in the world.

If I haven't convinced you yet, read about the special rewards or "perks" or free stuff (a la Indiegogo) you'll recieve for getting involved.

I will engage in a program called Global Citizen Year, a bridge year program designed to train and mobilize young leaders to become positive agents of change in the global community. Before leaving the United States, I will attend a two-week intensive training in California covering international development concepts, leadership, team-building, and social entrepreneurship. Then, I will embark on a seventh month homestay in a rural village in rural West Africa and engage in an unique apprenticeship with a local NGO, where I hope to explore my interest in public health. After this eight month adventure, I will return to the US to raise awareness and tell stories about the people, issues, and cultures I witnessed within my home communities.
